Madras Cafe (2013) is a Bollywood political-thriller directed by Shoojit Sircar, and is set in the 1980s and 1990s. It covers the topic, in the likeness of a conspiracy theory, of Indian intervention in the Sri Lankan civil war, and the ethnic conflict and the consequent assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Madras Cafe (2013) stars John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri, Prakash Belawadi, Siddharth Basu, and Rashi Khanna in the leading roles. The film performed averagely on the box office but received National Award for best audiography at the 61st National Awards. Madras Cafe (2013) was produced by John Abraham along with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

Madras Cafe (2013) starts with the ethnic killings happening at Sri Lanka, and the rebel groups killing innocents in the name of purging the race that truly belongs to the land. In the middle of this civil war, there is an undercover agent of the Indian military who, according to the demand of his work, has to gather information against the Tamil rebels. With bloodshed and violence on the high, Vikram and a British journalist named Jaya Sahni (Fakhri) get a chance to meet the rebel group leader in person, who agrees to reach a negotiation on terms of his own. Vikram finds himself trapped between the corruption of his own department and his duty as an intelligence office. Central to this, he becomes aware of the plan wherein Rajiv Gandhi is to be assassinated in one of his rallies. Vikram realises that, as an intelligence officer and part of the Indian government, there are more to the things which appear to the naked eye.

Madras Cafe (2013) is in narrative format, done by John Abraham as Vikram, who is assigned to the war front by his senior from RAW, Robin Dutt (Basu). This Shoojit Sircar film takes viewers into the depths of the geopolitical war that shook the Indian and Sri Lankan subcontinents, and the inglorious history is attached with it. Madras Cafe (2013) was released in Blu-ray format, in Hindi with English subtitles, by Shemaroo. It is released in 2013, with a U/A (Parental Guidance) rating and a runtime of 130 minutes.
